Fiat MultiAir Technology Coming To More Chrysler Engines

Posted in News - Miscellaneous with tags , , , , , on April 29, 2010 by Vehiclez Team

With the new Pentastar V6 confirmed to feature Fiat’s MultiAir valve timing technology, Chrysler has now confirmed it will upgrade its four-cylinder ‘World’ engines to the same standard.

Chrysler expects the upgraded engines will see a 20 to 30 percent improvement in fuel consumption, and a 10 percent increase in power.

The updated four-cylinder engines are expected to appear in new models from next year, including the company’s 2.0 litre and 2.4 litre engines.

According to Fiat, adding MultiAir technology to the Sebring’s 2.4 litre four-cylinder would see a boost in power from 129kW to 141kW, with low-end torque improving by around 15 percent.

Fiat and Chrysler CEO, Sergio Marchionne, said last year that Chrysler internally describes the MultiAir technology as “variable valve timing on steroids”, adding that any car utilising it will have “the lungs of an athlete”.

Chrysler confirmed in December that it would initially build Fiat’s 1.4 litre FIRE MultiAir engine for North American versions of the Fiat 500, before adapting the technology to its own small engines.

f1_ferrari_valentino_rossi-4bd0cf9e2be94-1280x1024The boss of the Italian carmaker Fiat has backed calls for Valentino Rossi to switch to Formula One in 2011.

Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo this week said he wants F1′s rules to be changed so that the Italian team can enter a third car for the multiple and reigning champion of MotoGP.

Sergio Marchionne, the Chief Executive of the Ferrari parent Fiat, admitted that Rossi at the wheel of a Maranello built single-seater is “a great idea”.

“Luca says he would like to have a third Ferrari car with Valentino — it’s a great idea if he (Rossi) is willing to do it,” Marchionne said.

The comments are despite Rossi’s contractual ties to Fiat, with the carmaker a major sponsor of his MotoGP team Yamaha.

Marchionne said he “cannot say anything” about Rossi’s future, with the 31-year-old’s contract expiring this year.
